Santorini

Santorini was a blast! Enjoy the picture journey of the volcano, white washed buildings with blue roofs and stunning sunsets.

Lisa, thank you for the fabulous time in Greece :)

Athens

Athens is a city full of ancient history. Lisa and I did a self tour one day and a guided city tour another day.  Enjoy the pictures of our walk about!

Change of guard at the tomb of the unknown soldier. The inscriptions you see on the wall are the names of the wars Greece has been involved in.

Wow, these outfits! We were told that they take three hours to get on and each part of their outfit symbolizes a part of Greek history. For example, there are 400 folds on their skirts for the 400 years  that the Ottoman Empire held reign over the Greeks.
A view of Athens from a temple high on a hill.
These ladies were pleased to pose for a picture! :)

Just playing for a coin or two.

The theater was renovated for modern use. It is said that if you drop a coin on the floor at the bottom, you'll be able to hear it from the top bench.

One of the temples on Acropolis hill.

Lisa is studying the map/pamphlet.....perhaps learning more about the Acropolis.

The Acropolis

We sisters are enjoying the day

One of the many statues that was recovered and now set up in a museum.

The view of the Acropolis from Mars Hill.

Another temple that has survived surprisingly well!

Street vendors

A intense game of chess.

The stadium...it can hold 60,000 people, it's the biggest in the world.

Remains of the Zeus Temple

This shield is massive, how they ever carried them and fought at the same time?! They had to be some tough people.

The remains of the library.

The remains of the Athena Nike.

A bonding moment....Lisa and one of the adopted dogs of the city :)

Haha! I had a case of giggles walking through this meat market. All the butchers were yelling in Greek, trying to get the customers to buy their product. Then this butcher started yelling my name and I looked back and he wanted me to take a picture of him and Lisa! So funny :)

Graffiti decorates this city, primarily due to its poor economic situation.

Cafe Frappes are yumm yumm!

At the Acropolis Museum....they are still digging below the building looking for more remains.

Athens, thanks for sharing your history. Lisa and I are off to Santorini for the last part of our trip!
Cheers
