Hobart & Surroundings

Before arriving in Hobart, we stopped at Port Arthur to gain some Australian convict history. The pass included a cruise to the Isle of the Dead island and a cruise around the first boys penitentiary island.

The memorial for the 1996 massacre that killed 38 people, 20 of them from this cafe.this event also prompted the gun law changes Australian wide.

The penitentiary was under renovations, so we couldn't tour it.

The isolation prison.
In the church. The convicts were also isolated here...each had their own pew with walls.
