So, here we are at the end of our trip on the West Coast and Northern part of the South Island! We saw a ton of "decent" scenery. haha! It was all amazing. Hang on for the ride and I hope you all enjoy the journey! :)
| The picture is enough of an explanation ;) |
| Pancake Rocks |
| This is still a scientific mystery! It's a bit inexplicable and in turn creates quite the tourist attraction as you may not see this anywhere else in the world. |
| Large kelp, or perhaps this is the normal size of them. Not sure. They were interesting though! |
| Weka, AKA the bush chicken. |
| What do you folks think about this beach?! Neat eh? I thought so :) |
| Miss Holly enjoying the view! |
| West Coast, NZ. I would say it looks quite similar to other coast lines, nonetheless, still beautiful! |
| Must I even comment?! Gorgeous :) |
| DOC (Department of Conservation) Camp just North of Karamea. The furthest North you can go on the West Coast. |
| The view from camp! Lovely |
| The next day, we've went to check out the largest limestone arch in the Southern Hemisphere. |
| Here it is! Quite impressive eh? It's hiding quite well amongst all the greenery! |
| Mirror Lakes |
| Yes, this is our car full of hitch hikers! haha. They couldn't even see in front of them. In the back we have a man from France. The girl in the middle is from Germany and the guy on the other side was from New Mexico. |
| We even asked a Kiwi what this sign meant and they didn't know! |
| At the Buller Swing Gorge. Johnny, from New Mexico paid the entrance fee because he hitched a ride for the whole day. |
| Some more limestone! So cool. |
| This is Johnny. |
| We caught the swing guy sleeping on the job and as a result.....see below. |
| Holly and I got a free ride across the river on the swing! haha. It was so funny :) |
It wasn't really that cold, however, we had to be bundled to comfortably enjoy the outdoors with the sandflies! Oh what pests they were :)
| Continuing on.......only to be stopped by a farmer who was herding his sheep! Typical. |
| haha. We stopped at a rose garden when we got up north. If nothing else, it smelt amazing! After all, we weren't smelling the best after camping for a week ;). It was gorgeous though! |
| The coast of Abel Tasman National Park. |
| Split Apple rock.....we got a water taxi one morning to then hike back along the coast line. On our taxi ride, we got a little tour of the coast line as well! |
| Simply amazing! |
| I was loving the coast line and the weather couldn't have been better. It wasn't too hot and it was a clear day! |
| These little lagoons are also amazing! They have quite a few of them along the coast. |
| Holly enjoying the swing on a brief break in our trek! |
| Golden sand beaches! So cool :) |
| What do you reckon? Not bad eh?! |
| A lovely place to set up camp for the night. Unfortunately we didn't have enough time to spend the night along the way. There was more things to be seen! |
| The next day, we hired kayaks to tour around the Golden Bay area. Gorgeous! Here Holly is taking pictures of all the birds ;) |
| So great to just be out on the water checking things out! |
| The rock arch. Holly mastered it! |
| Lunch spot, as you can see the tide was in! |
| Later that day we stopped in at one of the largest fresh water springs in the world. This is a Maori scared area and that water was so incredibly clear! Wow and the colors, beautiful! |
| We ended our adventures with swimming with the dolphins. |
| Yeah man! We enjoyed our time :) |
| Here they are. These particular dolphins keep to pods of two to four and they are actually going extinct. We didn't get to interact with them too closely because they weren't too interested. However, they were quite neat creatures though! |
| Back in Auckland before leaving some amazing adventures. |
| Typical city scene. |
| And yes, believe it or not.....the platform shoes are coming back. So 80's style around this part of the world! |
| Good-Bye New Zealand! |
| And thank you to Holly for making this adventure turn into a fond memory! |
The adventures will continue......back across the ditch in Australia. Stay tuned and take care until next time. Cheers mates!
