Welcome to Gili Trawangan! There are three Gili islands close to Bali, with Gili Trawangan being the biggest and it's not that big. Mia and I spent three nights here and you can basically see everything in that amount of time.
| This is the port.....pull up to the beach and disembark. |
| A couple local boys taking in the scene and going for a afternoon swim. |
| We were always eating. Here we were at a local Indonesian restaurant, which was recommended by a local guy. |
| If this isn't the mode of transportation then biking or walking is. This island is an island with no motor vehicles......they are not allowed. |
| Loading up the buggy at a local shop. |
| One of many construction sites.....there is a lot of it happening right now and it's only a matter of time before this island loses its authentic charm. Do you notice the boy young man sitting in the shade holding a rope? They were using a pulley system to get supplies to the second level. |
| A coral beach. A small coral reef surrounds most of the island. |
| That night, we met a local family at the beach and this little girl was so adorable. As you can see, she didn't quite know what to think of me :) |
| An evening horse ride. |
| The tailings of the sunset. It was gorgeous. Across the water is Bali. |
| The night market. Every night starting at six.......there were local food stands serving you whatever you'd like at a nice price. |
| I reckon this was ~$2.40 AUD. |
| Pancakes.....they serve them everywhere as a dessert. |
| This little boy was doing the dishes at the market while his family served food. |
| Mia and I biked at a very leisurely pace around the island......1.5 hrs later we were already done. Here is beach front property for a resort. |
| You would bike through this one minute and....... |
| ......this the next. |
| The locals homes....and note rubbish bins are hard to come by. |
| These young kids just chill in in their backyard! |
| I was thinking that this power source looks a bit hazardous. |
| These guys make bracelets and necklaces for their income. This is the home of the guy on the right.....just a bit of a straw roof. His wakes up, goes for a swim and makes jewelry all day. |
| Loading the boat with goods. |
| At the Ecco Cafe....one of our favorites. This pancake had pineapple, ice cream, cashews and papaya. It was a new take for me, but good none the less. |
| Biking the inner roads of the island.....here we came upon a soccer game. |
| Recycling center |
| Residential construction. |
| If you need any construction done.....just give the number on the sign a call! |
| Horse and buggy days |
| The ship (or I should say boat) yard....the locals hanging out on top the piles in the shadow. |
| How about bamboo poles for scaffolding? |
| An afternoon swim for the local boys. |
| A road side convenice store....do you need anything? Coconut? Water? Fresh fruit? Insta noodles? or sunnies? Just stop and have a look. That's what they would tell us...."Have a look" |
| The local shipyard! What do you reckon? The old man in the picture was glad to be getting his picture taken :) |
| Travel companion, Mia. |
| This is one of the options for accommodation. Between $400,000-$500,000 IRD/night, which equates to about $40-$50 AUD/night |
| Palm tree forest....the coconuts that have been cut down and are ready to go to the market. A fresh coconut was $20,000 IRD, so about $2.00 AUD. |
| I asked this girl if I could take her picture and she just gave me a shy nod.......she probably didn't really understand me as English is not their first language. This is her home. |
| One of the streets through the island. |
| Yes, it's true.....I walked into this web! I felt the web and jumped back and then when I noticed the spider I ran to a safe distance. haha.....although running doesn't do any good right?! Literally my head was right next to this thing! So nasty. |
| This is another road side shop. |
| I love it! Washing laundry with a machine is a luxury! |
The next destination is back to Bali for almost another week then back to Australia.
Take care mates!
Great photos! The life style that these islanders have seems so simple :)
