Milford Sound

In the town of Te Anau, Holly and I enjoyed a pie (usually a meat pie, I'd hate for you to mix it up with berry ;)) and then we jumped next door to a company Go Orange. They are a fairly new company and their Milford Cruises were right within my budget, so we booked and we were stoked to get out their the next morning! Even more so because the weather forecasted to be clear and that is a rare thing in Milford Sound. Smiles all around. Plus the lady that booked us in was from the States and gave us some good hikes to go on for the next couple days. One of them is not a hike that's advertised for tourists, so we were even more sold! :)

This is Milford Sound folks. Hang on and enjoy the cruise!
The sandfly.....oh what a pest! They are relentless and will bite you till they are content.....I don't know if they ever become content though! :) Apparently, there is a Maori story that says some highly regarded lady discovered how amazing Milford Sound was and didn't want visitors to stay long so she released the sandfly there. Are you liking the story so far? In the end, I think she died near the entrance of the sound and there is a green stone beach which signifies her previous presence. It's a beach filled with Jade, which the Maori do collect to make jewelry. Cool eh?!
Milford Sound in the early morning. So quite and peaceful and notice.....no clouds in the sky! A rare day for sure!
Not to be worried folks!! Your driver is quite capable driving this cruise boat! :) It was awesome though.....Blake, who you see in the background thought I was competent enough to drive the boat and that's what I did for half of the cruise. It was good fun. Maybe my career plans should include becoming a Skipper. Plus, I got a coffee out of it! I reckon I am very competent now! haha :)

Adolescent male sea lions. They leave their colony when they are quite young and don't go back till they have matured. So here, they are just baching it on the rocks....enjoying the sun.

One of the many waterfalls. Again, they are so hard to capture! I think it was this one that they said is double the height of Niagara Falls.

Another view of the sound looking towards land from the Tasman Sea.
Isn't it beautiful?!
This was yet another waterfall, but this one the boat when right to the wall, so if you  were standing in the front of the boat you got soaked! This water is so clean that you can take a cup and put it under the waterfall and drink it. New Zealand is amazing for that! It was so good.

Looking at the base of it straight on. The water was thundering down and/or misting!

Back up a bit and you get a full appreciation for the fall.
This wall that you see is literally a sheer cliff and it's so tall. It was hard to capture the magnitude of most things in the sound. You just couldn't grasp the depth of it all.
Now at the base of the wall......you turn and put your back to the wall and look up! It's crazy and it was hard to capture, but a truly cool feeling.

Lovely day!

Yup! Loving it :)

Happy Days as the Kiwi's would say!

Bridal Veil Falls. So pretty!

Back from our cruise on Go Orange, with Mt. Mitre in the background.

Mt. Mitre is one of the most photographed mountains in New Zealand. But will you just take a look at it? It's just photogenic ;)

I hope you enjoyed your cruise through Milford Sound. You all have a G'day! Cheers.
