South Island, NZ

In the South Island, our road trip started in Christchurch going south along the East Coast.....We then continued along the coast following the Southern Coastal Route. The following pictures are from these areas. Enjoy!

The cows get the best view of the ocean. So many farms go right up to the ocean!

One of the many walks we took to see waterfalls. This was one of them :)

This is along the southernmost coast of the South Island.

Petrified forest......apparently some rapid floods came through here and the silt immersed itself into the trees and they were preserved and now have rock characteristics.

Here's a stump.... can you tell?

A log.....lengthwise.
And we found some seals! They were so massive. Their pastime was sleep as you can tell.

The cool pebbly beach.....haha. It was a joke between Holly and I. She thought that this looked like corn......some other tree groves looked like broccoli......and some dried kelp on the sand looked like noodles. We were then wondering if this is a sign of a hungry traveler?! Haha : D. So this beach could be termed Corn Beach ;)

Lighthouse keeping watch for the seals! :)

Now, how do you like this idea?! Can't go somewhere without your dog :)

Don't mind that this picture is crooked.... This is what I get when I take pictures while the car is moving! :)

Not to be surprised.... there were more cows!

This is Gemstone Beach......as you can tell this is getting close to high tide and there are some vicious rips, so a person wants to stay out of the water. However, at low tide, it is known that a person can find semi-precious gems lying right on the beach! Pretty cool, unfortunately we missed it by a few hours.

I reckon this is a prospectors home....they will scour the beaches to strike it rich one day!

One of many suspension bridges in New Zealand. This one was cool because it was quite colorful!
View of the river.....see the boat in the distance....I'll bet they caught their dinner that day!

See what I mean about the color?! Amazing

Just about now, I am getting giddy because we are getting into some mountains. We had to pull over so I could take a picture :)

Stay tuned for the next post.....It'll be from Milford Sound and the surrounding areas. May you all have a wonderful day! Cheers.
