Thermal Wonderland
This is not the actual name of the park, but it was a wonder, so it's my name :) All the different colors are results of different earth minerals etc. I am sure if you have a geology fascination, you'd know exactly what makes the colors! I read the information, but was unable to retain the information. Regardless, I still appreciated the beauty of it!
| Some of these craters were steaming. One of the first we encountered. It was a misty/cloudy day, so I reckon it was a great time to tour the park. |
| Black....super neat! |
| This was gorgeous....you could see all the different types of thermal waters. Do not touch the water, they say. You will not come out unscathed. :) Hot stuff! |
| Perhaps one of my favorite, the Champagne Pool. |
| Clearly loving it :) |
| And another shot....aren't the colors incredible?! |
| A view from above of another pool! |
| This was a creek bed, believe it or not! |
| and the view of the creek/waterfall! |
| Apparently, the bird you see has no problem with the hot water! They actually eat the bugs that thought they could withstand the heat :) |
| I remember the name of this pool. Oyster pool, named after it's shape! ;) |
| Sulfur Cave> The steam that comes from below the cave creates the yellow hue. |
| Algae on a creek. Not sure if this was a freshwater one or not! |
| The thermal waters flowing into a freshwater lake. I reckon, if I was a local or was spending more than a day in the area I would check the lake out a bit more :) |
| And the forest surrounds the thermal park. One must stay on the track because all other ground could be unstable. :) So did I or didn't I stay on the track?! :) |
| And the mountains are not far away! |
| I think this crater was named the "Bird Nest". The birds lay their eggs in the sids of the wall and the warm vapor from below incubates them. Smart birds....less work for them :) |
| Another view of the Birds Nest |
| WOW!! I could hardly believe my eyes when I walked around the corner and saw this! This is called the Devils Bath. |
| Loving it and being a classic tourist with the peace sign :) |
| Boiling mud....a first time for me! Cool stuff though! |
| And since we missed the geyser that am, we went back the next day. It wasn't as cool as we hoped, because it was man induced. This geyser erupts naturally every 24 - 72 hours. However, it was still neat to see and the history behind it was funny...... Apparently, some prisoners were sent to this area to work and they found this stream that was warm. They decided to go for a swim and then wash their clothes afterwards. Well when they put the soap in the water, it caused an eruption and the guys went flying and their clothes were no longer recognized as clothes. Haha! So then from then on, they continued to do this as a pure source of entertainment! |
